National Junior Honor Society
ATTENTION ALL CURRENT NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY MEMBERS:
OUR FIRST MEETING OF THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR IS WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 4TH
AT 8:00am IN MR. MOLINA'S ROOM, 337.
PLEASE ENTER THROUGH THE MIDDLE DOORS IN THE FRONT TO PICK UP YOUR
NJHS BADGE.
The National Junior Honor Society is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle school students. The National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) established NJHS in 1929, eight years after it founded National Honor Society for high school students.
Five main purposes of NJHS guide our chapter: to create enthusiasm for scholarship; to stimulate a desire to render service; to promote leadership; to encourage responsible citizenship; and to develop character in the students of secondary schools.
The NJHS membership at JL Long Middle School is composed of about 50 Buccaneers in grades 7 and 8, and is co-sponsored by Andrew Molina and Karen Morrissey.
The student leaders facilitate their meetings and plan their service events under the guidance of the sponsors. This past school year we sent more than 200 holiday cards to our military through Support our Soldiers, compiled and donated more than 150 Shave and Shine Kits to The Stewpot, extended our understanding of citizenship by visiting "Amending America: The Bill of Rights" special exhibit at the Sixth Floor Museum, and served as school ambassadors during IB Showcase Night at JL Long.
